Are you a qualified forklift safety trainer? Have you completed train the trainer classes? Do you make and take the time to implement your training program in a professional manner? If you answered yes fantastic but if you hesitated on any of these questions don’t you think we should talk about it?
The manager(s) designated in a company’s formal forklift safety training program are responsible for trainee review and certification the trainee operates equipment in a safe manner. First, the manager from company must observe, complete an evaluation form, and “certify” that an employee can and does safely operate class/type(s) or PID/forklift. I wanted The Forklift Coach will be happy to provide this service in addition to classroom & practical training.
As part of the on going program continuous observation for safety violations by equipment operators is required.
Now that your operators have completed safety training and been certified the process does not end there!
Then, OSHA mandates ongoing implementation.
Training and re-certification of all operators must occur at least every three years. A company may decide to retrain every year, every two years, and must be done within the three year period. In addition employees who operate equipment in an unsafe manner must be taken off the equipment and given refresher training prior to being allowed to operate equipment. This includes accidents and taking into account company disciplinary action policies.
