Allow me to be blunt! If you don’t understand or pencil whip the practical training component please do everyone one big favor, STOP! Quality practical training is as important as traditional the high quality classroom training. Once again it is a compliance thing, so tell me are you compliant?
Part of the required classroom training is practical training. Practical training consists of walk through of entire environment forklift operators will maneuver equipment at the specific company facility. This includes inside and outside of building if applicable.
Practical training is mandatory and offers a great break from the traditional classroom environment allowing trainees to identify the various obstacles, dangers, and areas of high concern. This includes but not limited to access ramps, low ceilings, low clearance, specialty equipment operation areas only, Do Not Enter areas, gas line, heaters or other hanging equipment, emergency exits, and the actual equipment trainees are being certified to operate.
Do not bypass or short change your employees on practical side. It could be the difference maker!
Documentation of practical training is required and be used during training process.
